AC Milan played hosts to Fiorentina ,with the visitors being able to conquer Milan last time around. This win was vital to Milan’s title hopes he can ill afford to drop any points until the season end.
The match did not disappoint , both teams playing an exciting open brand of football , with each having their own chances to get ahead. An exceedingly cruel miss from Giroud who went around the corner to just miss, broke a lot of Milan fans hearts.
Milan did start to take control through the midfield possession though Theo Hernandez had a large presence in the match, Milan found it difficult to play it in from the wings to centre the ball back to the forwards. Majority of the offensive attacks came through the centre. Tonali and Kessie formed an impressive duo as they were able to gain the ball back quickly and take control of the match, though the first half and early second half was a frustrating affair as Milan continued to miss opportunities, Fiorentina always posed a threat.
Brahim Diaz was particularly quiet and appeared very short of confidence as reflected in his body language and second guessing himself on his decision making with a reluctance to back himself and tried to use team mates at the last second to no avail.
During the latter part of the second half Milan grew increasingly frustrated as
they were unable to put Fiorentina away, losing much of their composure with
Theo very lucky to not get a yellow for an elbow. Fiorentina were able to make
the most of the loss of composure and nearly scored through a Cabral's header,
which Mike Maignan amazingly saved not only from the goal, but also Milan’s
title hopes. Though Ibrahimovic’s
introduction to the game was quiet, he did towards the tail end of the game
pressure the keeper to making a wayward pass into Leao who slotted it home into
the back of the net for the winner.
