AC Milan 2 v 0 Atalanta

I sat in quiet desperation willing on Milan to defeat a hardnosed Atalanta to put them in a prime position to win the title, I knew it would not be easy and there were a few worrying moments.

The match began as a free flowing affair with Milan controlling much of the game but in regards to their offensive attacks, they were often desperate crosses that attackers like Giroud were unable to convert, with Alexis and Calabria providing efforts but were sadly unfulfilled due to inadequacies such as Alexis being particularly slow in his decision making. Leao did trouble Atalanta but he was normally man marked out of the foray or had to do  too much on his own. Whilst Atalanta often dribbled right into the box and Milan were saved brilliantly from their defences valiant efforts and Mike Maignan’s terrific save against Muriel right before half time.

Shortly into the second half Milan picked right where they left off but took substituted Giroud early as he had lost some of his composure. It would prove to be a good move as nearly immediately Messias Jnr provided a key assist that allowed Leao to break the deadlock and continue his terrific scoring run. The tempo of the game continued as before with Atalanta not providing any further ugency which allow Milan to continue to take control of the game by however it did take one of the best dribbles in recent times from Theo Hernandez to double Milan’s efforts and put the result away.

AC Milan have been far away from the perfect team this season but Pioli’s men have proven time and time again they are capable of getting the result and continue to find a way to get past their opponents. Due to Inter winning this morning, it all comes down to the final game this Sunday, as long as Milan don’t lose, the title will be theirs.
